Music for Life November 29, 2006

Filed under: Music — Kelly Van den Bleeken @ 7:13 pm

Hi,

After my absense of a full week already ;) , I decided it was time for some fresh material on my blog. For two months now I’m doing an internship at local radiostation Studio Brussel. The internship (which was/is SUPER) normally took 6 weeks, but after that term they asked me to stay for another couple of weeks. Ofcourse I did not reject this offer, I had a wonderful time there and I really liked the ‘job’… So on fridays, when I don’t have any courses I’m off to Brussels for a hard day of work ;) . My job now is to coordinate the Studio Brussel project Music For Life. And believe me, it’s going to be big. I won’t discuss the project in detail here, but the main factor is 3 radio presenters will be making live radio for 6 days long, non stop, in a Glass House (a radiostudio) on the Martelarenplein (it’s a court / square) in Leuven (Belgium). And they’ll do this WITHOUT EATING. The main purpose is for people to request songs for money. The profit all goes to charity: a demining project by the red cross… Music for life!!! But there is much more to happen that week! Check it out on http://www.stubru.be/musicforlife/. And keer your ears open for Studio Brussel…

The Black Dahlia November 21, 2006

Yesterday I saw the movie ‘The Black Dahlia‘, a new creation of Brian de Palma (you might know him from Mission:Impossible and Scarface). It is a film noir based upon a true story about the brutal murder on a starlet in the United States in 1947. A housewife found the would-be actress Elizabeth Short in a field…cut up in two pieces. Miss Short’s body was entirely mutulated. In real life this case has still not been solved! Almost 60 years later the ‘horror’story still fascinates, but this time in cinematic fiction. Crime and murder are however not the only themes in this film. A Hollywood blockbuster would be deficient if their was not any sex, corruption or conspiracy involved. These themes in the film are thus pure fiction (in contrast to the murder on Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Short). Or like the Dahlia website quotes: “true crime meets urban legend”.

Although the description of ‘The Black Dahlia’ might not sound too complicated, after one visit to the cinema I do not completely understand the plot. Probably because of the different stories mixed in one…

My general opinion: the film is worth a visit to your local theater; if not for the story itself… then go and admire the actors Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johansson and Hillary Swank. Another positive aspect of the film is its beautiful images, its ‘noir’ atmopshere and costumes! They deserve your attention :)

Hello! November 20, 2006

Since a couple of years, blogging has become a real hype. Still I never had my own blog, partly because I did not think I had time for one, but the main reason was me being afraid of writing for a ‘public’. But now here it is: my own blog, online for the whole world to read my ‘adventures’. The hardest part will be to keep it up-to-date and to write in a fresh and enjoyable way for all my (thousands of… ;) ) readers. Because, actually what does a 20-year old student really has to say that is of any importance to YOU? Not much probably, but I’m willing to give this a try and keep it as interesting as possible by writing little articles and opinions on films, music, events, festivals,….By blogging in English, I hope I will improve my English writing skills, so if anyone has any comments on my writings, feel free to tell me!
