Hi,
I’m in the middle of the exams, had my first on monday (religion – Okay, i guess), and the next one is NEXT friday… So, too much time to study… And believe me, that feels weird
The exam on friday is ‘Introduction in cultural studies’. I had to write a schematic paper for this (ORAL) exam about a cultural study-subject. I chose ‘Online communities and creating a virtual identity’, in this paper I’m discussing visual / virtual communities such as Second Life by asking ‘Why does someone escape real life to create a second, virtual life in cyberspace and spend hours and hours in this ‘fake’ world? What is wrong with real life?’. So next week I’ll be discussing this issue with the professor, and hopefully he likes my ideas on the subject… FINGERS CROSSED PEOPLE
Hi Miss Brightside,
I just thought I would leave you a note mentioning an article written by Caliandris Pendragon on our blog VTOReality I think you may find some interest. It is located at http://www.vtoreality.com/2007/why-second-life-can-be-taken-seriously/412/
entitled Why Second Life Can be taken Seriously.
I hope you may find it of use. Caliandris has been in Second Life around 3 years and located in the Uk. She is a very sharp observer in Second Life and states her views well.
Thank you
Harold

Thanks Weirdharold Cave for giving me an insight in the virtual world Second Life. I’ve read your blog and that of Caliandris Pendragon on the benefits of this community and I come to see that it is in fact interesting ’social software’!
I hope we were able to help you in a way which would help you on your oral test.
Please let us know how you did.
I really care, as I can honestly say I admire the way you speak your mind, yet open enough to “listen” to other opinions. I think you have a special gift.
Harold
