This year Belgian national radio station Studio Brussel organized Music for Life for the second time. In 2007 Studio Brussel wants to collect money for the drinking water problem across the globe, a silent disaster which affects millions of people on a daily base. Tonight we know how much money the radio station collected. Hopefully it’s a dazzling number!

Woohoo, Studio Brussel!

This time I really mean it… ;) November 3, 2007

Party for the People @ Ghent July 22, 2007

Wauw,

Friday night, two of my friends and myself went to Ghent for the kick-off of the last weekend of the “Gentse Feesten” (Ghent Festivities). It’s a 10-day long festival in the centre of Ghent with music, theatre, comedy and entertainment on every corner of every street. It was lots of fun and I must say that a sublime atmosphere reigns over Ghent during these festivities. It’s a true invasion of partying people. The hugh popularity of the festival might not be a surprise if you take into account that these festivities in the city centre are free for every guest. So actually it’s one of the most democratic festivals in Belgium I suppose :)

Salsa, pop, rock & roll, funk, … Name it and probably there will be a band playing your favourite music at one of the many markets in the city. At Boomtown up-and-coming and renowned pop/rockbands perform at their best. On friday we witnessed a tight set by the Belgian version of Queens of the Stone Age (;)) – Radio Infinity – and Mintzkov, also a Belgian band with international potential if you ask me. The DJ-set afterwards from Mo & Benoeli at Polé Polé couldn’t really mobilise the audience; a pity because in my opinion they weren’t bad at all… At 3 o’clock at night, the music was turned off and we headed back to the Vlasmarkt in Ghent where hundreds partygoers weren’t tired yet, including us. At half past 5 our party came to an end, we had to catch a train back home, but…

…Ghent, I’ll be back in 2008!

Hi again July 16, 2007

Wouw, it’s been 2 months since my last entry. Shame on me, but you probably know how it goes… busy with school and the upcoming holiday :)

Well, I’m glad to pronounce I graduated as a bachelor communication sciences, I was soooo euphoric with my results (several 16’s and 18’s on 20) Woehoe :) . And the vacation started off great with 4 days of live music on Rock Werchter. Musical highlights this year were (in my opinion): Muse, Kings of Leon, Bloc Party, Queens of the stone age, Arctic Monkeys, Pearl Jam, Goose, Interpol and Incubus. Also worth mentioning was our gigantic tent; really… it was “embarrassing” HUGE ;) and maybe the most embarrassing about the tent was that we couldn’t ‘construct’ it ourselves (we = me and two (female)friends) and we had to ask some help from several guys on the camping. Jezus, what a start :)

Furthermore, my family and I have been to Barcelona on a city trip. It was the third time I visited the city and it’s still a treat for the eye and a guarantee for a chill holiday. The hotel we stayed in for 5 days (Hotel Jazz) is a golden tip. As their own website states, the hotel really has a privileged location. It’s right in the centre of the city.

Well, that was a short update on my life…

Thanks for reading,

Kelly

It’s just another manic monday… I agree, BUT every day is a good day for MUSIC. Today I’ve bought two cd’s. One new album: 360° by Mintzkov, and one I should have had for a long time already: Silent Alarm by Bloc Party. But hey, no nagging here, it’s in my possession now. After listening to the Mintzkov album for about +/- 5 times, I must say this is one hell of an album. Way to go, Mintzkov. When you compare this album to their first one (back in the days when Luna was attached to the bandname), I definitely think they have grown and have gained ’street’ (well actually, in this case, ‘indie’) credibility.

The Bloc Party cd then was also a real bargain ;) . You can find hits such as Banquet and So here we are on this musical pearl, but the stunning opening song Like eating glass might sound familiar to you too. In my opinion, the cd sounds really ‘tight’ (I’m sorry, I can’t think of another word to express my impression) and after listening to only two of their songs you can really pick a Bloc Party-song out of a million others, they just have this typical sound – COOL :)

Not a lot of action on my blog lately … I know. But school’s really busy (presentations, papers, courses,…). But I have some nice prospects: easter holiday, a trip to Finland in may, and then in june and july ROCK WERCHTER. Woehoe!! This is the biggest Belgian Rock festival and this year there are some fine groups performing. Pearl Jam, Incubus, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, The Chemical Brothers, The Killers, Interpol, Damien Rice, …. Woehoe, I’m looking forward to 4 days loaded with music!! Werchter, here we come. But first, school: here I come, pfffff ;)

See ya!

Music for Life by Studio Brussel December 21, 2006

Update: Belgium (Flanders) was in a generous mood in December! The Music for Life project by Studio Brussel collected €2.419.426 . Now the Red Cross can help mine victimes across the world (especially in Cambodja) with a prosthesis (an artificial extrension of a missing leg or arm) and rehabilitation. Hooray Studio Brussel!

MUSE December 20, 2006

Yesterday. Muse. Sportpaleis. Antwerp, Belgium. One word: SUBLIME! After warming up with Razorlight (with its dandy frontman…), Muse had our undevided attention for about 1 hour and 40 minutes. They played an amazing set with classics such as Plug In Baby, Bliss, Newborn, Butterflies and Hurricanes, and ofcourse new songs from the Black Holes and Revelations album. Great sound from the three bandmembers, splendid intense vocals from frontman Matthew Bellamy and a spectacular visual show made it an amazing event. We were impressed!

Kick Off Music for Life December 7, 2006

Thursday I went to the kick off party of the Music for Life project in The Claridge in Brussels. Maxi Jazz from Faithless played an exclusive dj-set there. Maxi Jazz was at his best behind the decks. We had a really GREAT time.

By the way, there is a picture taken of us (Friend Nele and I) with Maxi Jazz. When I’ve uploaded it on my computer I’ll put it online.

Hi,

After my absense of a full week already ;) , I decided it was time for some fresh material on my blog. For two months now I’m doing an internship at local radiostation Studio Brussel. The internship (which was/is SUPER) normally took 6 weeks, but after that term they asked me to stay for another couple of weeks. Ofcourse I did not reject this offer, I had a wonderful time there and I really liked the ‘job’… So on fridays, when I don’t have any courses I’m off to Brussels for a hard day of work ;) . My job now is to coordinate the Studio Brussel project Music For Life. And believe me, it’s going to be big. I won’t discuss the project in detail here, but the main factor is 3 radio presenters will be making live radio for 6 days long, non stop, in a Glass House (a radiostudio) on the Martelarenplein (it’s a court / square) in Leuven (Belgium). And they’ll do this WITHOUT EATING. The main purpose is for people to request songs for money. The profit all goes to charity: a demining project by the red cross… Music for life!!! But there is much more to happen that week! Check it out on http://www.stubru.be/musicforlife/. And keer your ears open for Studio Brussel…
