I’m so proud of my stepdad… Werner namely made an appearance in ‘De Zevende Dag’ (The seventh day: a informational talkshow on sunday, on our public broadcaster VRT). He contributed to a panel discussion on YouTube and its importance (eg for a public broadcaster).

You can watch the show on Werner’s blog. Enjoy and congratulations to Werner :)

Welcome to my weblog Miss Greenman and dear classmates,

And … surprise for you Evelyne, our “wonderful” picture put online for the whole world to discover! Please forgive me… ;)

Anyway, this is an example of how a new blog entry on a blogsite looks like. I posted it yesterday evening – so it’s the most recent blog-entry- and you can read it on top of my site (the reverse chronological order I already mentionned, well hopefuly I mentionned it, otherwise I might have had a blackout!!).

Enjoy our  presentation!

One down, two to go January 19, 2007

Hi,

I’m in the middle of the exams, had my first on monday (religion – Okay, i guess), and the next one is NEXT friday… So, too much time to study… And believe me, that feels weird :)

The exam on friday is ‘Introduction in cultural studies’. I had to write a schematic paper for this (ORAL) exam about a cultural study-subject. I chose ‘Online communities and creating a virtual identity’, in this paper I’m discussing visual / virtual communities such as Second Life by asking ‘Why does someone escape real life to create a second, virtual life in cyberspace and spend hours and hours in this ‘fake’ world? What is wrong with real life?’. So next week I’ll be discussing this issue with the professor, and hopefully he likes my ideas on the subject… FINGERS CROSSED PEOPLE :)

Murder on MySpace January 6, 2007

Filed under: Online Communities / Virtual Identities — Kelly Van den Bleeken @ 9:56 am

WHAT IS THIS? Well, yesterday I stole my step-dads Wireds from the last couple of months and then I bumped in to an article in the Wired magazine of december 2006. The article describes a real life murder that aroused a lot of emotions and discussion, and this on the victim’s MySpace. Family and friends grieved in two worlds at the same time: the virtual (MySpace) and the real world. So even after Daniel Varo’s death, he kept receiving comments on his MySpace page. Now the death wander around as ghosts on our online social networks… By reading this article I’m even more convinced that new media have an enormous impact on our social relations… If YOU have an other opinion, feel free to let me know…
